The New Jersey woman who spent her rent money on billboards asking Tyler Perry to hire her as an actress got his attention, but it’s not what she was hoping for.
Tyler took to social media to implore Racquel Bailey and everyone else to stop doing this and to save their money.
He went on to say this is the third time this has happened and although he admires the fact that people are willing to go the extra mile and invest in their dreams – it also puts his team on high alert and makes him look at the folks sideways.
Read Tyler’s full response below:
Auhhh…. soooooo…… here’s the deal. This is not the way to get my attention if you’re looking for a role in one of my shows. Please DON’T DO THIS, SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
This is the third time that someone has done this. PLEASE STOP! To audition is FREE!! I’m sure you can use that money for a better purpose.
I love that you want to work with me, and I love that you invest in yourself. But when you do things like this it puts my team on high alert and makes me look at you sideways. I know the message that you want to send is a positive one, but this comes across as the opposite.
Again, the best way to work for me is to AUDITION and it’s FREE! We post breakdowns all the time for actors. JUST COME AND AUDITION.
And by the way, you were great in THE NIGHT OF! It was my favorite show a couple years ago. I ALREADY SAW YOU!! So just audition and keep your money!! Again, I appreciate your effort, but that’s not the way to work for me.
God bless you dreamer. I have no doubt you will make it one day!!
See Tyler Perry’s original post:
Racquel, who is a 32-year-old mother of two, told A-Scene she spent $2,000 on the Billboard and this is the second one she’s purchased in hopes of working with Mr. Perry:
Seven years ago, I put a billboard up in Atlanta.
I never heard back from Mr. Perry, but I went back to the drawing board and continued to work on my craft, auditioned more and worked more.
I love the diverse projects that are coming out. He (Perry) has this project called ‘Sisters’ that I would love to be a part of.
I believe I’m part of an industry that’s extremely talented, but you have to set yourself apart. This is not for publicity, I just want Tyler Perry to see me.
If this gets his attention, then every bit of it is worth it.
The billboard definitely got T.P.’s attention.
Do you think Tyler should have given her a shot or sis should have spent that Billboard money to hit up auditions?
