According to ESPN, Ty Lue has agreed to a 5-year deal to coach the Los Angeles Clippers.

Reports say Lue’s representative Andy Miller finalized negotiations on the deal Thursday afternoon.

Lue has won 3 NBA Championship, two as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers (2000-2001), and one as a head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2016).

Lue has huge shoes to fill taking over after Doc Rivers, but the fact that Lue was Doc’s assistant this past season definitely helps.

The Clippers had the fourth-best record in franchise history this past regular season going 49-23, but they blew a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinals and loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Lue was on the bench taking this all in, and I wonder what adjustments he would’ve made when the Clippers started losing those double-digit leads they had in all three losses.

Lue coached the Cleveland Cavaliers for three years (2016-2018), and he coached them to an NBA Championship in his first year.

Led by LeBron James on the court, Cleveland made it to the Finals throughout Lue’s tenure as head coach.

Much like the Clippers scenario Lue was on the coaching staff before he became a head coach in Cleveland as well.

Lue is known to be a great player communicator, and he is credited for keeping superstar talents LeBron James and Kyrie Irving personalities in check and focused on the task at hand, in his 3 years with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I’m sure Clippers management is expecting Lue to maintain that type of energy when it comes to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Neither one of them have big personalities, but I’m sure management is expecting Lue to teach them better interpersonal skills and team building skills.

Rumors are that Chauncey “Big Shot” Billups may be joining Ty Lue on the LA Clippers staff, that would be awesome!

I am very excited for Ty Lue and the future of the Los Angeles Clippers. I can’t wait for next season to start!

Do you think Ty Lue will coach the Los Angeles Clippers to a championship within the next five years?
