Sanaa Lathan Fox series Shots Fired

Sanaa Lathan To Star In “Shots Fired” On Fox

Actress Sanaa Lathan has been tapped for the lead role in “Shots Fired,” a new event series from Love & Basketball filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood and “Empire” executive producer Brian Grazer.

According to Deadline, “Shots Fired” examines the dangerous aftermath of a police shooting when an African-American cop kills a white teen in Tennessee. Sanaa will play the role of an expert investigator who digs into the police shooting case, alongside a special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice. The pair must navigate the media attention, public debate and the social unrest that comes with such a volatile case as they seek justice before the divided town erupts in a race war.

“Gina and Reggie have crafted a profoundly moving portrayal of a timely and sensitive issue that pervades our culture at this very moment,” said David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “This is not only an important story to tell, but also an explosive mystery-thriller, and we couldn’t be in better hands both with the creative team behind this, along with the very talented Sanaa Lathan leading the cast.”

The series will be a reunion for Lathan and Prince-Bythewood.

Sanaa’s first breakout role was in Gina’s 2000 classic film, Love & Basketball.

Stay tuned as I will give you more scoop on this project as it becomes available.
