Tinder has announced its plans to release a feature later this year that will give its users the option to run background checks on potential dates.

The feature will allow users to see:

  • Convictions
  • Orders of Protection
  • Restraining Orders
  • Legal documents that report abuse, harassment, and other violent crimes.

The software for this new feature will be developed through a partnership with background check non-profit group Garbo and Tinder’s parent company Match Group.

Most users are excited about the new feature and feel like it will add an extra level of safety and security, but some critics have expressed privacy concerns.

Tinder’s parent company Match Group says they are not giving any information to Garbo, and they don’t receive results from the background checks. Match Group emphasized in a statement that the feature is optional.

We are providing our users a resource they can choose to use to help keep them informed about people they may interact with.

I’m sure those women that enjoy the companionship of a criminal have a special appreciation for this new feature (#ThugLove).
