Thor put his hammer down at the box office this weekend. The highly anticipated Marvel Studios film, Thor: Love and Thunder, scored the biggest opening of any previous Thor film with a $143 million debut.

In the film, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace.

But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.

To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

So what are people saying about Thor: Love and Thunder?

It appears to be a mixed bag. Some folks loved it and others were extremely disappointed.

One fan wrote:

Thor: Love and Thunder was fun and I enjoyed it overall. The biggest highlight for me was Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. He was mesmerizing. He’s got some really kickass and creepy scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed every second he was on screen. #ThorLoveAndThunder#Gorr

Another moviegoer tweeted:

#ThorLoveAndThunder goes overboard with MCU humor, but nails it with the perfect amount of heart. It’s all about love. Love seeing the team up of Thor, Dr. Jane Foster, Valkyrie, & Korg. Gorr the God Butcher is chilling! Taika Waititi nails the visuals as always!

This person wasn’t feeling the film at all:

#ThorLoveAndThunder amplifies a declining production quality for Marvel. Everything felt cheap, like fast-food. Yet, it had largest budget for Thor. Hollywood is favoring content over cinema, overworking VFX artists and diluting quality. Until fans demand better, it won’t stop.

I will say the MCU just ain’t been the same since Endgame.
