‘The Carmichael Show’
The wait is almost over!
Season 3 of “The Carmichael Show” premieres on May 31 at 9 p.m. on NBC and it’s going to be pretty fantastic.
I recently visited the Los Angeles set of the show and sat down with the incredible cast: Jerrod Carmichael, Amber Stevens West, Loretta Devine, David Alan Grier, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish to get the scoop on the forthcoming season.
Jerrod Carmichael, creator and star of the show, discussed sharing the full perspective of the black experience on “The Carmichael Show.”
The blackness is inherent in the characters. What’s beautiful is growing up around all of these really rich people, like rich in character. These people who are really passionate about things. I’ve seen people cry over losing a cigarette – that type of passion…really emotional and I think that that is kinda inherent in the characters.
With subjects or anything that we talk about I just approach it just from a state of observing, curiosity…challenging – I like to challenge in stand-up and in scripts. I think that those are the conversations that are had in the black community that you just don’t get to see a lot of times on television. A lot of times you see one dimension of us, but I like to show that it’s a full range when disagreeing and it’s not always a perspective that you would guess. You can’t just guess a black perspective. It can come from anywhere.
Amber Stevens West
Amber Stevens West plays Jerrod’s therapist in-training fiancée, Maxine.
During our convo, Amber shared why it’s so fun to play the role of the new aged liberal.
I like that Maxine has a very clear point-of-view, but the show as a whole – every perspective is shown of a discussion. Maxine is always the “new age” very open-minded liberal trying to challenge everyone in the family. I think that it’s fun to be that person. I get to do a lot of eye rolling.
David Alan Grier & Loretta Devine
David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine play Jerrod’s parents, Joe and Cynthia.
The iconic comedian and actress shared how they became a part of the cast and gave the scoop on what to expect from season 3.
Tiffany Haddish & Lil Rel Howery
Tiffany Haddish and Lil Rel Howery, who play divorced couple Bobby and Nekeisha, talked about their longtime friendship and how working on “The Carmichael Show” is a dream come true for the both of them.
In addition to tackling mall shootings, the N word, and assisted suicide, season 3 of “The Carmichael Show” will also welcome special guests including Margaret Avery (“Being Mary Jane“).
Hands down, “The Carmichael Show” is one of the realest and best shows on television.
It was such a pleasure visiting the set and chatting with the stars of my favorite show!
Special thanks to NBC for having me and be sure to tune in to the season 3 premiere of “The Carmichael Show” on May 31 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
