A suspect has been arrested and charged in the tragic and senseless shooting death of 11-year-old Karon Brown.

Tony Antoine McClam, 29, of Southeast was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree murder.

On Thursday, Karon and his 12-year-old brother, Quentin, walked to a nearby McDonald’s to get their older sister some food.

Quentin became impatient while waiting for the food and went back home. Karon stayed at the fast food restaurant.

Quentin went back to the McDonald’s around 7 p.m. to get Karon, but by the time he arrived all hell had broken loose and a fight inside the restaurant involving children and adults spilled out into the streets.

A good samaritan, who was driving by, saw Karon being assaulted and beckoned him to retreat in his vehicle.

As they were trying to get to safety, someone from the crowd shot at the car striking Karon.

He died at the hospital.

Some law enforcement feel like Karon was targeted in the shooting. But, D.C. Police Chief say they don’t have a motive at this time.

Karon’s mother, Kathren Brown, reacted to the suspect’s arrest saying, “I am happy they got him. But honestly, it doesn’t bring my son back.”

I’m so tired of our babies being slaughtered. I send my deepest sympathies and prayers to Karon’s family and all who loved him.
