The shooting happened in Miami Gardens along Northwest 38th Place and 199th Street at about 8:45 p.m.

Miami Gardens police said Bailey and Antwan Reeves were shot after a light-colored, four-door sedan pulled up and then shots were fired. Three other passengers, including two minors were inside the car at the time, but were not injured. Police say the shooter’s car may be a Buick Regal.

Police say the victims drove themselves to the hospital. Bailey is in critical but stable condition and awaiting surgery, while Reeves went into surgery after getting to the hospital. Police did not detail his condition.

The St. Louis Rams released a statement early Wednesday saying, “We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Bailey went to Miramar High School before playing for the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was a third-round draft pick for the St. Louis Rams in 2013, but is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
