Samaria Rice, Mother Of Tamir Rice, Releases Statement On Non-Indictment

Samaria Rice, the mother of Tamir Rice, has released a statement following the devastating news that a grand jury decided not to charge two Cleveland police officers responsible for the shooting death of her 12-year-old son.

In her statement, Samaria called out Prosecutor Timothy McGinty for sabotaging her son’s case.

McGinty said that newly enhanced surveillance video made it “undisputably clear” that the boy was reaching into his waistband for the toy — which was “indistinguishable” from a real gun — just before Officer Timothy Loehmann opened fire.

“The outcome will not cheer anyone, nor should it,” McGinty said of the grand jury’s decision. “The death of Tamir Rice was an absolute tragedy. But it was not, by the law that binds us, a crime.”

Samaria is hopeful and prayerful that the investigation being conducted by the Civil Rights Division within the Department of Justice will bring forth justice for her son.
