Reid Health, a hospital in Indiana, has four Xenex’s Light Strike robots that they use to disinfect surgery and inpatient rooms using pulsed xenon ultraviolet light.

What in the George Jetson!

The Xenex Light Strike robots (XLS) are used to sterilize every room after a COVID-19 patient is released.

The XLS robots use ultraviolet light to disinfect the rooms, eliminating the need for cleaning liquids, sprays, and cloths.

The light is hundreds of times more intense than sunlight, and it destroys bacteria, viruses, fungi, and bacterial spores by fusing their DNA and rendering them unable to reproduce or mutate.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic this year highlighting the importance of infection control, we always ensure we have the best tools and technology at our disposal,” said Jennifer Ehlers, vice president, and chief quality officer at Reid Health.

These robots remind me so much of the Jetsons cartoon, which was one of my favorites as a child. During my childhood, I always thought by 2020 we would be living like the Jetsons.

See video below of the CEO of Xenex Morris Miller explain how the XLS robots combat COVID-19:

Do you think these robots will find their way into your local hospital?
