Don Imus, the pioneer of shock jock radio, passed away on Friday at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, Texas, after being hospitalized on Christmas Eve.

His cause of death has not been disclosed. Don was 79.

Despite his 40+ tenure on radio, Don forever tarnished his career in 2007 when he called the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos” and “jigaboos.”

When Don Imus retired from radio in 2018, he expressed regret for his racist remarks about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team saying he “knew better.”
