R. Kelly returned to social media after a nearly 3-month hiatus to sing “Happy Birthday” to his estranged daughter, Joann Kelly.

Joann, who now goes by the name Buku Abi, spoke out in January after the airing of Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly” and said that she hasn’t spoken to or had a relationship with her father in years.

Anyone that knows me personally or has been following me throughout the years knows that I have not had a relationship with my father. Nor do I speak on him or on his behalf. I also am not fond of dealing with personal issues or personal life experiences through social media but, I feel things are starting to get out of hand.

Unfortunately, for my own personal reasonings & for all my family has endured in regards to him, his life decisions, and his last name, it has been years since my siblings and I have seen and or have spoken to him.

During his explosive interview with Gayle King, an emotional R. Kelly claimed he was trying to have a relationship with his kids.

I guess R. Kelly’s birthday song is his attempt at extending an olive branch to his daugher…or it’s an attempt to repair his public perception.
