Gabrielle Union On The Struggles Of Black Actors
Hollywood can be a tough place for actors…but, if you’re a black actor, you really have an uphill battle ahead of you.
In an interview with Ocean Drive Magazine, Gabrielle Union candidly discussed the struggles of being a black actor.
“The Being Mary Jane” star said in most cases, black actors can’t even get their foot in the door to audition for roles.
Half the time, [African-Americans] don’t even get the opportunity to fail . . . At least let me audition, so you can say I just wasn’t good enough.
Most times, black actors can’t even get in the door.
It’s still grossly unequal — and that goes for the Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern and LGBT communities . . . We have a long, long way to go.
Gabrielle Union is set to star in Nate Parker‘s Sundance hit, The Birth of a Nation.
