Kel Mitchell shares his powerful testimony.
After his long-running sitcom, “Kenan & Kel,” was canceled, Kel Mitchell‘s life started to spiral out of control.
In an exclusive interview with People, the 37-year-old actor and comedian said work was scarce and his six-year marriage to Tyisha Hampton had fallen apart.
“I felt like I’d hit a wall. I was like, ‘Okay. I need to figure out what I need to do in my life,'” Kel shared.
But, things got worse. Depression set in and Kel began to abuse drugs and alcohol.
He told People, “As a young actor there are ups and downs and when you get to that down part, there are times you feel like no on can relate to you. When Britney Spears shaved her head, I understood that.”
At one point, Kel admitted he was suicidal. “After my divorce I just felt like life was not working out,” he shared.
But, when he hit rock bottom, he turned to God.
“I was trying to figure it all out on my own. But what I needed to do was turn to Him,” says the actor, who became the stage manager at a non-denominational Christian church in Los Angeles. “Once I found that clarity with Christ, I knew everything would work out.”
Kel now has a great relationship with his son Lyric, 16, and daughter Allure, 14, he’s happily married to wife Asia Lee, a designer and rapper, and life is good!
