The Poison Control Center saw a spike in New Yorkers ingesting household cleaners in the hours following Donald Trump‘s controversial Coronavirus remarks.

In case you missed it, the 45th President of the United States suggested injecting disinfectants could cure the deadly virus.

Trump is now claiming he was only being sarcastic, but it appears the damage of his words was already done.

According to a spokesman, the Poison Control Center managed 30 cases of possible exposure to disinfectants between 9 p.m. Thursday night and 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.

9 of the calls were specifically about possible exposure to Lysol, 10 calls were about exposure to bleach, and 11 calls were about exposure to general household cleaners.

During the same time last year, the PCC only handled 13 similar cases.

Commissioner Oxiris Barbot tweeted this reminder:

Lord have mercy.
