Man Pays Speeding Ticket With 22,000 Pennies
A Texas man has been crowned the King of Petty after he paid his $212 speeding ticket with 22,000 pennies.
Brett Sanders was popped for driving 39 mph in a 30 mph zone.
He tried to fight the ticket in court and lost.
Via WSB-TV:
“When my fine came due, I just decided I may as well pay with pennies and we’ll make a big spectacle of it,” Sanders told NBC Chicago.
He breaks apart $212 worth of pennies from their paper rolls and dumps them into 5-gallon buckets painted with the words “extortion money” in yellow on them.
He walked into the office asks if they accept exact change. They do. He leaves and returns with the buckets, pouring the penny contents all over the clerk’s desk.
Sanders actually overpaid by $7.81. He said the city can keep it.
It is not against any rule to pay with pennies, city staff told NBC Chicago. It is actually the second time someone has paid a fine with pennies.
