Six months after Breonna Taylor was senselessly shot and killed in her apartment by Louisville police who were serving a no-knock warrant on her home, a grand jury has announced they will only charge one officer, Brett Hankinson.

Hankinson has been charged with 3 Counts of wanton endangerment to the 1st degree (class D felony).

A person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person.

This means he has been charged for the bullets that entered Breonna’s neighboring apartments. He has NOT been charged in the actual killing of Breonna Taylor.

The case has been assigned to the Division 13 court.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Brett Hankinson and his bail has been set at $15,000 cash.

If convicted, Hankinson could face up to 5 years in prison.

Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove were not charged.

The decision comes a week after the city of Louisville reached a $12 million settlement with Breonna’s family.

The decision comes as no surprise considering Hankinson was the only officer to be fired in the months following Breonna’s death.

Rather than charge all of the officers involved, they skirted real justice by simply dumping the fault on one officer so the others could walk.

The measures the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Mayor took prior to the announcement of the grand jury decision was the writing on the wall of the tomfoolery that was to come.

The LMPD declared a state of emergency on Monday (Sept 21) and erected barricades around the city in preparation for whatever retribution that will rain down on the city of Louisville.

The mayor has imposed a 9 p.m. curfew for the city.

SMH. Black Lives Matter.
