Benzino’s Nephew Convicted In Funeral Shooting
Benzino‘s nephew, who shot him two years ago during his mother’s funeral procession, was convicted on Thursday in Plymouth Superior Court.
After a six-day trial and 17 hours of deliberations, Gai Scott, 39 was found guilty of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was acquitted of armed assault with intent to murder.
Via The Patriot Ledger:
Plymouth Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Locke set sentencing for Scott for Aug. 26. He was convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Scott fired several shots at Scott, hitting him in the shoulder and back shortly before noon on March 29, 2014. When officers arrived, they found a red Dodge SUV in the middle of the highway with bullet holes in the vehicle and blood inside the vehicle.
They also found shell casings and projectiles at the scene.
Investigators found there was growing family tension between Gai Scott and his uncle. Scott was traveling in a 2006 Bentley to the funeral of Raymond Scott’s mother at a Plymouth church when the shooting took place.
“At some point, the vehicles were driving side-by-side and (Gai) Scott fired several shots into the red Dodge SUV being driven by his relative. The victim was struck by the gunfire, pulled over and exited his vehicle along the highway,” a statement issued by Cruz’s office said.
Prayers up for the Scott family. I can’t imagine how this terrible ordeal has affected them.
