‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Review

When Godzilla and King Kong are in the same room, it could go either way.

Like Porsha and Kenya on those “Real Housewives of Atlanta” episodes, you might get something as innocent as a mean, cold stare-down, OR, if air and opportunity are the only barriers between them – uh oh, the air has left the building – well, one might take advantage of that opportunity and the room will be reduced to rubble.

To call these two “Frenemies” (Godzilla and Kong, not Porsha and Kenya) is an understatement.

Honestly, I don’t know why they can’t just talk it out.

Life is short, although one is a little over a hundred and the other could be a couple of million years old – ok, bad reference but y’all know what I mean.

Anyway, in the new movie “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” we better hope their relationship has progressed, because a new villain has entered the room more powerful than both of them!

Is this film a titan or a monstrosity? Let’s go!

KING KONG…AIN’T GOT NUTHIN’…ON ME!!!Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, and Kaylee Hottle.

It’s the sequel in the MonsterVerse franchise because hey, cinematic universes are the thing right now and, why not, right?

A few years removed from “Godzilla vs. Kong”, good ol’ Kong is settling into his new home in Hollow Earth while Godzilla is protecting our side of Earth from creatures dubbed “Titans”.

That’s good for everyone that they are separated because when these two get together, it’s worse than cops and Spring Breakers in Miami.

Not so fast, folks! The Monarch team begins to pick up a disturbance in Hollow Earth, Godzilla senses it, but Kong actually discovers it…the hard way.

Kong’s might isn’t enough to stop this menace, and he reluctantly seeks the green machine for assistance.

Now, I must give credit to the creators of the “G x K” trailer we’ve all seen.

There is much more to this movie than it leads us to believe. Not only are Kong and Godzilla the main attractions but so is Hollow Earth.

This time, the landscape and its inhabitants are explored. New creatures roam and fly around and we see how the big gorilla moves around in a land that towers above him.

As for Godzilla, yes, he has changed. He’s still King of the Monsters and has gotten more agile and quick.

I guess a radioactive diet does that to a person.

The cast does a great job; Henry as Bernie Hayes is hilarious in a quirky way and stands out.

The human characters move the story along but it’s plain to see that they are there for exposition.

Hottle who plays Jia has a pivotal role but outside of that, this is a bonafide monster movie.

Fans want to see Godzilla and Kong wrecking shyt, and that’s exactly what they do.

Well, at least one does. You could say this movie is Kong “featuring” Godzilla. It still works, however.

This film does an excellent job of creating anticipation for him while focusing on Kong and his plight.

Action scenes are absolutely nuts! Uh, I wanna know who’s gonna pay for all the destruction these things are causing.

Kong, Zilla, and those other dayum monsters are the reason our property taxes are rising!

Construction workers will be in demand, trust me.

The villain in this sequel is menacing and cunning. Very formidable, our heroes have their task cut out for them.

The VFX team has stepped their game up, but I do feel this movie is very Hollywood.

It’s almost like a “Fast and Furious” styled flick in a lot of scenes. They are overdone which is crazy for a movie about monsters.

Don’t make them totally unbelievable, please.

A very interesting observation about “G x K” is that this film really doesn’t need human characters to carry it.

Director Adam Wingard has managed to concoct a storyline where creatures may not talk, but we understand everything.

It’s a very entertaining film with a pretty cool plot, so I’m co-signing “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” to the fullest!

Definitely check this out in IMAX so you can get the full experience.

Yeah, I have faith in Kong and Godzilla. They just need to talk things out or roar things out. K x G. We all we got.

Am I my monster’s keeper? Yes, I am!
