Missy Elliott - Chaka Khan - Don Cornelius - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023 (1)

I’m thrilled to report Missy Elliott, Chaka Khan, and the late “Soul Train” host Don Cornelius are among the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

The full class of inductees also includes Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against The Machine, The Spinners, DJ Kool Here, Link Wray, Al Cooper, and Bernie Taupin.

Chaka Khan will be inducted into the “musical excellence” category.

Don Cornelius will be the recipient of the annual Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Missy Elliott is stunting on the inductees as the only artist to have made it into the hall on her first year of eligibility, 25 years after her first commercial recording.

Not only that – Missy is the first female in rap to be inducted!

John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, said:

Missy Elliott got in first ballot, just like Eminem got in first ballot last year and Jay-Z the year before.

So if there’s a throughline we’re seeing, it shows the power of hip-hop music culture now, as if we didn’t know it already, as far as how quickly these artists are being recognized on the first ballot.

Missy Elliott took to Twitter writing:

I want to say this is HUGE not for just me but all my Sisters in HIPHOP this door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work & what many of us contribute to MUSIC.

I have cried all morning because I am GRATEFUL thank you @rockhall & all on the committee & Supafriends.

See her original tweet below.

The induction ceremony for the 13 honorees will take place on November 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Hall is expected to announce a new media partner considering their contract with HBO has expired.

Congratulations to the entire 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
