First Lady Michelle Obama Will Not Run For President

First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off South by Southwest Music 2016 in Austin by participating in the festival’s opening keynote presentation.

Missy Elliott, Sophia Bush, and Diane Warren were also a party of the panel-styled event moderated by Queen Latifah where First Lady Michelle Obama discussed her Let Girls Learn initiative aimed at helping 62 million young women around the globe not currently being educated go to school and stay there.

She also smothered my dreams of seeing the Obamas back in the White House when she confirmed she will NOT be running for president.

Peep a few quotes below.

On Let Girls Learn:

For me, 62 million girls not getting an education, that’s personal.

We know from the statistics that girls who are educated, they raise healthier kids. Lower HIV rates. It can boost an entire country’s GDP, having more educated women.

On Not Running For President:

I’m going to continue to work with our young people all over the world. Not as president. I will not run for president. One of the reasons why, because I’ve got these two young people at home. And being the daughters of the president, just think of that? They’ve handled it with grace and with poise.

And also there are so many ways to impact the world. You don’t have to be the president of the United States to do wonderful, marvelous things.

First Lady Michelle Obama has a released song titled “This Is For My Girls” that features Missy Elliott, Kelly Clarkson, Zendaya, Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monáe, Lea Michele, Jada Grace and Chloe x Halle to support her Let Girls Learn initiative.

The uptempo girls anthem was penned by the incomparable Diane Warren.
