Matthew Apperson, the man who shot at George Zimmerman‘s car during a road rage incident in 2014, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Last month, a Seminole County jury found the 38-year-old man guilty of second-degree murder, armed aggravated assault and shooting into a vehicle.
On Monday morning, Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson handed down the state-mandated minimum: 20 years for shooting at another person with a gun.
Apperson maintains it was self-defense because Zimmerman pointed a gun at him first, but the jury didn’t buy his story.
George Zimmerman told the judge Matthew Apperson is a dangerous person. “The crux here is Mr. Apperson’s blatant disregard for my life, any life … anybody driving up and down Lake Mary Boulevard,” he said. (Pot meet kettle)
In 2012, Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old walking back to his father’s home from a convenience store, and walked away scot free.
