Today marks the 30th anniversary of the day “We Are the World” was released.
On March 7, 1985, the greatest charity song in history was recorded by USA for Africa and released to benefit the humanitarian aid in Africa and the US.
I’ll never forget getting my 45-inch record from McDonald’s as a nine-year-old and playing it over and over until my Great-Grandmother threatened to stomp it down to the devil.
The only thing better than the actual song was the music video. Watching all of the biggest names in music come together for a cause greater than themselves was absolutely amazing.
According to Wikipedia, “We Are the World” sold over 20 million copies and won three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and a People’s Choice Award.
30 years later…the song still rings true and resonates in my heart.
