Pregnant Woman Killed By Husband
Police have arrested the husband of a 22-year-old pregnant woman who was fatally pushed down the basement staircase in her Brooklyn home.
Internal Affairs has also launched an investigation into the police officers who were called out to the residence for a wellness check, but they never got out of the car.
Via NY Post:
NYPD cops were called to a Brooklyn home Wednesday to check on a pregnant mom who was “scared” of her husband because he was “acting funny,” police sources told The Post.
But they never got out of their car.
Later that morning, the woman, Tonie Wells, 22, was found strangled at the bottom of a basement stairwell. Her husband, Barry Wells, 29, was arrested in the death, and the Internal Affairs Bureau has launched an investigation into the officers who were initially dispatched, the sources said.
“These cops completely s–tcanned the job,” a source said. They didn’t even go up to the house,” a source said of the cops. “If they did, they would have seen her.”
Wells’ body was discovered around 9:50 a.m. with bruises on her neck inside the Sterling Place residence in Crown Heights following multiple 911 calls by neighbors to report loud arguing, cops said.
“Witnesses heard an argument and something falling down the stairs,” a high-ranking police source said. “She was found on the stairs.”
NBC reported that some neighbors who called 911 said they heard the woman’s 2-year-old child crying in the home and discovered Wells’ body inside.
Barry Wells was arrested hours later and was being questioned at the 77th Precinct station with charges pending, police sources said.
So incredibly sad.
