Malia Obama Is Headed To Harvard
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama confirmed their eldest daughter, Malia Obama, will be attending Harvard in the fall of 2017.
Malia, who is a senior at Sidwell Friends school in the District of Columbia, will take a gap year before attending Harvard.
The White House didn’t offer details on what Malia’s plans are during her year off.
Harvard Spokeswoman Anna Cowenhoven released a statement saying, “We can confirm that we have received her acceptance and she will attend in the fall of 2017. We look forward to welcoming the entire freshman class to campus and seeing all they accomplish in the years ahead.”
The president is a 1983 graduate of Columbia University, and Mrs. Obama graduated from Princeton in 1985. But, the FLOTUS said in a recent interview there was no pressure on Malia to follow in their footsteps.
The one thing I’ve been telling my daughters is that I don’t want them to choose a name. I don’t want them to think, ‘Oh I should go to these top schools.’ We live in a country where there are thousands of amazing universities. So, the question is: What’s going to work for you?
Congrats to Malia Obama!
