Lena Waithe Responds To Claims She Knew About Jason Mitchell's Misconduct

Lena Waithe is now on the defense after she was accused of knowing about Jason Mitchell‘s alleged misconduct on the set of “The Chi” and doing nothing about it.

The award-winning writer and creator called in to “The Breakfast Club” and spoke with Charlamagne to set the record straight on a few things and I have to say I was surprised and disappointed by after listening to the interview.

In case you missed it, Ayanna Floyd, who was hired on as the showrunner of season 2 of “The Chi,” rang the alarm in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter when she said everyone was very well aware of Jason’s misconduct including Lena!

In a statement to THR, Ayanna said:

When I took the helm in season two, it was Lena who informed me of the issues between Jason Mitchell and Tiffany Boone from season one, and that Tiffany was thinking of leaving the show because of it.

As a result of this information, I discussed Tiffany’s claims with the studio’s HR department and set up HR presentations for the writers, cast and crew. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena, the creator and an executive producer of the show, who is very involved at the studio and network level.

As showrunner, I did everything I could to deal with his behavior, by speaking with the studio’s HR department multiple times and instructing one actress to call HR herself, before I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well.

That’s when all eyes shifted to Lena like, “Oh, you knew, sis?! And didn’t do anything?“

During her convo with Charlamagne, Lena Waithe did confirm she found out about Jason’s misconduct directly from Tiffany after the first season of “The Chi” had wrapped.

Lena went on to say she really didn’t have the power to make any major decisions when it came to Jason because she doesn’t own “The Chi” – she sold it.

But, then she said she hired Ayanna and other queer women of color to create change on the set. So, she still had some shot-calling power around there.

Lena told Charlamagne that she regrets counting on someone else (Ayanna) to get the issue resolved rather than handling it herself.

During the convo, it was also revealed that Lena Waithe has not talked to Tiffany Boone since finding out Jason was still acting inappropriately.

She also noted that she has not spoken to Jason Mitchell since the shizznit hit the fan and added that she will never work with him again.
