Rep. Dan Johnson Commits Suicide
A Kentucky lawmaker accused of sexually molesting a teenage girl in 2012 committed suicide on Wednesday.
Republican state Rep. Dan Johnson was found dead of a single gunshot wound near Mount Washington, Bullitt County Coroner Dave Billings said.
He drove onto a bridge in a rural area southeast of Louisville, parked and shot himself in front of his car, Sheriff Donnie Tinnell told CNN affiliate WDRB.
Shortly before his death, he posted a rambling message on social media, denying the sexual assault allegations and urging his family to stay strong for his wife.
Relatives became concerned after seeing the post and reached out to law enforcement, who pinged Johnson’s phone and later discovered his body, according to Billings.
According to NY Daily News, Dan Johnson assaulted the teen at a New Year’s Eve party in 2012.
Johnson allegedly forcibly kissed, groped and used his finger to penetrate the girl, despite her asking him to stop, on New Year’s Eve 2012.
At the time, the woman told police, who investigated the incident but closed the case and did not file charges.
He denied the allegations as calls mounted for him to resign.
Dan’s wife, Rebecca Johnson, took to Facebook writing she “lost the love of her life.”
