Johnny Kemp dead at 55

Johnny Kemp, best known for his 1988 smash, “Just Got Paid” died on Thursday (April 16) in Jamaica. He was 55.

Police say the Bahamian singer was found floating at a beach in Montego Bay Thursday morning. The cause of his death is unknown.

Various reports stated the singer was vacationing on a cruise ship before his death. Johnny Kemp was scheduled to perform with Teddy Riley on Tom Joyner’s annual Fantastic Voyage cruise (to Jamaica), which sparked rumors that Johnny had fallen off of ship.

Reach Media immediately released a statement denying Johnny was on their cruise ship prior to his mysterious death.

We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away. We do not have any other details. We can confirm he was not on the ship for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise.

What a sad situation. I’d like to extend our condolences to Johnny Kemp’s family, friends, and fans.

Rest in peace, Johnny.
