The judge presiding over the George Floyd murder trial is mulling over whether or not to delay the trial after the news of the family receiving a $27 million civil settlement may have tainted the jury.

An attorney for ex-Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin argued the news of the family receiving the hefty settlement may have tainted the jury.

Eric Nelson said he found it “perplexing” that the city would announce the settlement in the wrongful death case “in the middle of jury selection.”

Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill said he will take up the issue on Wednesday.

Eight of the last 11 potential jurors have been dismissed.

On Tuesday, Judge Cahill dismissed one juror on Tuesday morning because the man was aware of the settlement and would likely continue to read news coverage on the case.

Chauvin’s attorney is asking Judge Cahill to halt to trial and reconsider his earlier request of moving the trial out of Minneapolis.

The judge said he will consider both requests.
