Howie Lake II, the white Louisiana police officer who assisted in the arrest where 37-year-old Alton Sterling was fatally shot, has been dismissed from a wrongful death lawsuit.

Lake used his stun gun on Alton and helped wrestle him to the ground moments before Blane Salamoni shot him six times outside a convenience store where Alton was selling homemade CDs.

Both Lake and Salmoni were not criminally charged.

In 2017, Sterling’s family sued the city, its police department and former police chief and the two officers. The lawsuit alleges the shooting fit a pattern of racist behavior and excessive force by police.

Howie Lake II and his attorney requested that he be dismissed from the wrongful death suit arguing there was nothing Howie could have done to prevent Salamoni from shooting Alton.

On Monday (September 21), a state district judge granted their request and dismissed him from the suit.

Blane Salamoni and others remain on the suit as defendants.

They are scheduled to appear in court on March 1, 2021, unless a settlement is reached.

Unbelievable.
