John Geddert has reportedly taken his own life hours after sexual assault charges were filed against him.

Geddert died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday afternoon.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued a statement concerning the death.

My office has been notified that the body of John Geddert was found late this afternoon after taking his own life.

This is a tragic end to a tragic story for everyone involved.

Geddert was the coach of the 2012 women’s gold medal team in the London Olympic Games, which included superstar gymnasts Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, and Jordyn Wieber.

Geddert allegedly sexually assaulted an unidentified person in 2012, who was between the age of 13 and 16.

He was facing 20 counts of human trafficking, 2 counts of sexual assault, 1 count of racketeering, and 1 count of lying to a peace officer.

Prosecutors say Geddert lied to investigators in 2016 about the team’s doctor Larry Nassar, who is now a convicted sexual predator.

Team USA suspended Geddert when Larry Nassar was arrested in 2016.

Feeling the heat following Nassar’s arrest and conviction, Geddart announced his retirement in 2018.

John Geddert taking his life is an admission of guilt. It is horrible that those young girls were entrusted in the hands of predators.
