Jason Lary, Former Mayor Of Stonecrest, Accused Of Stealing $650K In COVID Relief Funds

Jason Lary, former Mayor of Stonecrest, Georgia, who is accused of stealing $650,000 in COVID-19 relief funds, announced his resignation on Tuesday (January 4), and pleaded guilty to federal charges the next day.

He’s been charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit federal program theft, and federal program theft.

He allegedly used the funds to cover his tax debts and pay for a lakefront home.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Lary said he was resigning due to health issues, and he asked citizens to measure him by the whole story.

Stealing $650,000 from the government is definitely bad for your health.

The Stonecrest City Council released the following statement:

As we anticipated Jason Lary has forfeited his position as mayor based upon his guilty plea to federal charges, early today.

The Council has appointed George Turner as temporary mayor until a new mayor is elected.

Reportedly, Lary took a plea deal (details unknown).

Why do people think they’re going to get away with these COVID crimes?
