Janelle Monáe has always been very coy, mysterious and/or private when it came to her sexuality, but it’s a new day!

The singer and actress came out as “a queer black woman in America” in her recent interview with Rolling Stone to promote her new album, Dirty Computer.

Janelle says she initial identified as bisexual until she read about pansexuality, which means you are not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity.

Being a queer black woman in America — someone who has been in relationships with both men and women — I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf-cker.

I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.

The word on the street is Janelle is currently dating actress Tessa Thompson.
