Here's Why You Should Watch NBC's New Comedy Series 'Marlon' (Video)

NBC Premieres ‘Marlon’

Tonight’s the night! NBC’s new comedy series, “Marlon,” premieres on Wednesday, August 16 with two back-to-back episodes at 9p and 9:30p.

“Marlon” is loosely based on the life of actor and comedian Marlon Wayans, who stars as an inappropriate and loving father who is navigating how to co-parent with his polar opposite ex-wife Ashley, played by Essence Atkins.

Amir O’Neal and Notlim Taylor star as Marlon and Ashley’s adorable children, Zachary and Marley, and they are fantastic.

Diallo Riddle is Marlon’s right-hand man, Kevin, who is everyone’s favorite underachieving overachiever.

Bresha Webb is Ashley’s bestie, Yvette, aka the “THOT Princess.” Think Saaaandra Clark meets K. Michelle. Her banter with Marlon is reminiscent of Martin’s epic verbal showdowns with Pam.

After screening a few episodes of the series, I can assure you – you’re going to love it!

While “Marlon” is hilarious…it also has a lot of heart.

Despite their failed marriage, Marlon and Ashley’s efforts to co-parent their children while healing from their divorce is real, relatable, and at moments endearing and emotional.

Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins’ chemistry is so organic that you sometimes forget they aren’t a real-life couple.

Last, but most importantly, the show portrays a beautiful black family in a positive light!
