The legal battle between Gladys Knight and her son, Shanga Hankerson, to have her named removed from the chicken and waffle restaurants has taken a very nasty and ugly turn in an Atlanta courtroom.
Shanga’s attorneys are now claiming Gladys “lacks the mental capacity” to make that decision.

Shanga Hankerson’s civil attorney says the soul legend does not know what’s going on in the day to day operations of the restaurant, but in the court filing, she argues Gladys Knight does not have the quote, mental capacity, to make the decision.
In an email to 11Alive News, Hankerson’s attorney called the claim an affirmative defense, and went on in the paperwork to deny all the claims against Gladys Knight’s son.
The troubled restaurant owner is being sued for felony theft by taking for allegedly collecting sales tax and not turning it over to the state.
Reached by phone, Hankerson’s criminal attorney told 11Alive he was not in a position to comment on the new claims.
Gladys Knight’s attorneys said Hankerson forfeited the right to use her name the day he turned himself in to police on the criminal charges… and now he’s fighting to keep it.
Gladys Knight’s public relations firm refused to comment on the new allegations, but on social media, the legendary singer did not seem bothered – posting a throwback picture of she and the pips the day it was filed.
Shanga better get his mind right. Until he does right by his mother – everything he thinks about is gone fail and crumble.
