Quasheda Pierce was shot at her son’s funeral on Saturday afternoon at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Cocoa, Florida while the funeral guests were paying their last respects to her 18-year-old son Sincere Pierce.

The shot rang out as the pastor finished his prayers and friends and loved ones placed flowers on Sincere’s casket. Quasheda yelled I’m hit as the crowd of about 50 people scattered. Quasheda’s friends and family helped her into a minivan and attended to her injuries until the ambulance arrived.

The severity and location of Quasheda’s injury have not been confirmed, but according to people on the scene she was shot in the leg.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s office, the shot was an accidental discharge from a gun carried by a 16-year-old attending the service. Reports state the bullet penetrated the 16-year-old’s leg and then struck Quasheda Pierce.

The investigation is ongoing and the name of the gunman has not been released.

Quasheda’s son Sincere was shot and killed by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy Jafet Santiago-Miranda who fired multiple shots into a car, he presumed to be stolen. Miranda also killed 16-year-old Angelo Crooms who was the driver of the vehicle.

According to reports, Crooms backed out of the driveway and drove forward in the direction of Miranda, who, gun drawn, repeatedly shouted at the teen to stop the car. Although the teen’s families and lawyers say the dashcam footage shows that Crooms tried to avoid hitting Miranda.

The case garnered national attention and civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is seeking justice for the teens’ families.

Hopefully, the person that shot Quasheda and the deputy that killed both teens are held accountable for their actions.

Our prayers and condolences are with the Pierce and Crooms families.
