Dave Willock - Devin Willock - 40 million Lawsuit against UGA

Dave Willock, the father of UGA player Devin Willock, has filed a lawsuit seeking $40 million in the January car crash that killed his son and a recruiting analyst.

The accident occurred on January 15, 2023, hours after the parade and ceremony at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia, in celebration of UGA’s back-to-back national championships.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Gwinnett County places blame on the University of Georgia athletic department, Jalen Carter, who was just drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, and Chandler LeCroy, the recruiting analyst who also died in the crash.

Athens strip club, Toppers International Showbar, where Devin Willock, Carter, LeCroy, and others gathered before the crash is also named in the lawsuit.

Jalen, who is serving 12 months probation for reckless driving and racing on highways and streets, was driving on a suspended license when he led Leroy on a high-speed race through Athens, the lawsuit alleges.

LeCroy’s SUV, rented by UGA, was traveling more than 100 mph seconds before the vehicle left the roadway and struck utility poles, trees, and an apartment building.

Devin Willock was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Chandler LeCroy was pronounced dead at an Athens hospital.

In addition to Jalen Carter, several players have been charged with excessive speeding, street racing, reckless driving, and other offenses before and since the crash.

The tragedy that claimed the life of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy raises questions about the culture of UGA’s football program.

Williams Stiles, one of the attorneys for Dave Willock said the allegations in the lawsuit are “supported by public statements of the university, evidence and statements disclosed in the media by various entities and our own investigation.”

“Lawsuits are about accountability and justice, and Mr. Willock is seeking accountability for all those involved in the death of his son Devin and justice for Devin,” Stiles added.
