FOX announces “Empire” will end after season 6 and fans launch a petition to bring back Jussie Smollett for the final season. Get the scoop.
The 6th season of “Empire” will be it’s last.
Just two weeks after FOX announced the music drama would be renewed for a sixth season…they added that it will also be the last season for the series.
FOX Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said the final season will offer 20 episodes to give the fans closure.
We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing.
You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.
But, for many – there won’t be closure without Jussie Smollett!
Fans have launched a petition on Change.org demanding that the network brings back the embattled actor for the final season of “Empire.”
The petition reads in part:
Fans of the show have come to love Jussie through his ground-breaking portrayal of Jamal Lyon ever since “Empire” debuted in 2015. Throughout his life and career, Jussie has only shown impeccable character while fighting for equality, love, and freedom. There have been many articles about the great humanitarian work Jussie has been doing since he was very young. The character of Jamal Lyon is just one example of this.
It also notes:
Removing Jussie from the show would be taking the side of proven liars when the charges have been dropped and there is no evidence to show he’s guilty even after a biased media storm inspired by police & city officials.
The petition already has 14,000 of the 15,000 signatures requested.
