Ellen DeGeneres’ Mother ‘Regrets’ Ignoring Her Claims Of Sexual Abuse
Ellen DeGeneres’ mother, Betty DeGeneres, says she regrets not believing her daughters claims of sexual abuse.
Hindsight is 20/20, but in most cases the damage is already done.
Ellen DeGeneres‘ mother, Betty DeGeneres, now says she “regrets” ignoring her daughter’s claims of sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather.
During her recent sit-down with David Letterman, Ellen revealed her stepfather sexually assaulted her at the age of 15 or 16 and used her mother’s breast cancer as the catalyst.
In a statement to NBC News, Betty said:
I love my daughter, and I wish I had the capacity to listen to her when she told me what happened.
I live with that regret, and I wouldn’t want that for any other parent. If someone in your life has the courage to speak out, please believe them.
