Dwayne Johnson, his ex-wife and business partner, Dany Garcia, and Redbird Capital joined forces to purchase Vince McMahon’s XFL for $15 million on Monday (August 3).

Johnson, best known as “The Rock,” took to Twitter to announce the major deal.

He tweeted:

With my trailblazing partner @DanyGarciaCo & Red Bird Capital, we have acquired the XFL. With gratitude & passion I’ve built a career with my own two hands and will apply these callouses to our @xfl2020 brand. Excited to create something special for the fans! #XFL #fullcircle

Taking a moment to illuminate this very cool and huge milestone. My XFL partner, Dany Garcia becomes the first woman to OWN an entire sports league independent from a team. She was the architect in this acquisition and now we go to work – for the love of football. @xfl2020

He went on to say in a statement:

The acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things—my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans.

With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football.

Vince McMahon’s football league was forced to file for bankruptcy protection in April after the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the league’s inaugural season.

Scott Soshnik of Sportico broke terms of the deal just before the league and its assets were set to go up for auction.

I am very interested to see what Dwayne Johnson and his business team will do to with the XFL.

How about you?
