A federal grand jury has indicted convicted murderer Derek Chauvin and the other three officers involved in the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd for violating his civil rights.

Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao have been charged with violating Floyd’s civil right to be free from excessive force and unreasonable seizure, according to an indictment unsealed on Friday (May 7).

All four men are also accused of failing to provide him with medical care during the incident.

The Justice Department had been working on the case since George Floyd’s death, but they reportedly delayed bringing the charges to a grand jury to avoid interfering with Derek Chauvin’s murder trial.

They are charged with aiding and abetting Floyd’s murder and will face trial in August.
