On Saturday night, Spike Lee received an honorary Oscar at the seventh annual Governors Awards dinner in Hollywood.
The outstanding filmmaker with over 35 films to his credit was presented with the award by Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, and Samuel L. Jackson, three legendary actors who were the leading men in Spike’s biggest films.
In a Facebook post, Spike wrote, “What A Blessing To Have Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson And Wesley Snipes Present Me Last Night With The Honorary Oscar For My 29 Year Body Of Work. It Was An Historic Night. YA-DIG? SHO-NUFF. And Dat’s Da Truth, Ruth.”
During his acceptance speech, Spike Lee called for more diversity in Hollywood saying, “We need to have some serious discussions about diversity and get some flavor up in this. This industry is so behind sports it’s ridiculous.”
