Denzel Washington - Aujanue Ellis - Will Smith 2022 Oscar Nominations

The 2022 Oscar nominations have been announced and it’s bittersweet. Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, and Beyoncé scooped well-deserved nominations, but it was disappointing to see the absence of other hopefuls we were rooting for.

Netflix’s The Power of the Dog, a revisionist Western that uses a careworn genre to examine toxic masculinity, made history with 12 nominations, the most of any film.

I am very excited to share Denzel Washington received a nod for Best Lead Actor in The Tragedy of Macbeth.

The A24 and Apple TV+ film also received nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.

Will Smith received his third career nomination for Best Lead Actor for his portrayal of Richard Williams in King Richard.

Aunjanue Ellis scooped a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Oracene Williams in King Richard.

Beyoncé received a Best Original Song nomination for her incredible single, “Be Alive,” from the King Richard film.

The Warner Bros. film also received nominations for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

Coming 2 America received a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Here are the nominees in the major categories:
