Deion Sanders was all smiles as he talked with his NFL friend Michael Strahan about his new coaching position at the Historically Black University Jackson State.

Deion said God led him to Jackson State University and he is looking forward to advancing the incredible football reputation that JSU already has.

Deion plans to go after some of the top recruits and he wants African American athletes and their parents to look at HBCUs as a viable option to professionalism in sports.

Makur Maker, a five-star basketball recruit, recently committed to play at Howard University, which was considered a bold shocking move by a lot of professional sports analysts.

Now with Deion Sanders accepting the head coach position at JSU, there seems to be an HBCU movement in college sports that’s picking up steam and threatening some of the bigger name colleges and universities.

Deion Sanders is elated to be the new coach at JSU and he’s looking forward to taking on the responsibility of leveling the playing field for the black athlete.

Watch Deion Sanders talk to GMA in the video below:

I commend Deion Sanders and Makur Maker for being the leaders of this HBCU movement, and I encourage sports fans to support these courageous men.
