Yu Fen Wang, the daycare worker who stabbed three newborn baby girls and two adults in the middle of the night, claims she snapped and thought the babies were wolves.
In an exclusive interview from Rikers Island, the 52-year-old Chinese immigrant told the New York Daily News, “I don’t know why I did such a thing or what I was thinking about. At the moment, I thought they were not babies, but wolves.”
“So I slashed,” she said.
Yu Fen snapped about 3:45 a.m. on September 20. She grabbed a knife and a meat cleaver and went on the attack.
Three infants — a 12-day-old, a 32-day-old and a 33-day-old — were hospitalized in critical condition with injuries. Police found Yu Fen Wang unconscious in the basement where she tried to commit suicide after the attack.
She told NY Daily News, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I hope (the babies) didn’t get hurt. I hope they are OK.”
Wang worked at an illegal daycare inside a home in Flushing and authorities believe the nursery was used by pregnant Chinese women for “birth tourism.” Foreigners travel there to give birth to their children in America to leverage their citizenship.
She’s been charged with five counts of attempted murder and is currently on suicide watch at Rikers Island.
