Heartbreaking news out of Michigan…

Danyna Gibson, a 16-year-old straight-A high school senior was fatally stabbed in a Fitzgerald High School classroom by another female student on Wednesday.

Authorities believe the 17-year-old female student attacked Danyna with a kitchen knife because her boyfriend had dumped her and began dating Danyna.

Via NY Daily News:

Gibson was stabbed twice in the chest with a kitchen-style steak knife by the 17-year-old suspect at around 8:30 a.m. in a classroom filled with 20 to 30 other students, Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said.

A school resource officer administered CPR, but Gibson died at a local hospital about one hour after the altercation began.

Dwyer said the suspect was angry with Gibson after a male student dumped her and began dating Gibson.

Student Victoria Oraczko, 16, told the Detroit Free Press that she was in the classroom when the attack occurred, and was pushed from behind as she heard someone yell, “She’s gonna kill me! She’s gonna kill me!”

“I froze. I don’t know what to do. I just saw one my friends just dying,” she said.

Student Francesca Pascua added that she saw Gibson trying to run from the suspect to no avail.

“She ran out the classroom while the teacher was pushing her out and she was saying, ‘I’m going to kill you, I am going to slit your throat.’ She was saying crazy things and like, running around in circles,” Pascua told local ABC affiliate WXYZ of the suspect.

Police are expected to charge the female student with murder as early as Thursday.

Sending my sincerest condolences to the Gibson family.
