Luka Doncic, the NBA Dallas Mavericks’ breakout star, is being celebrated today (July 6) for his moves on and off the basketball court by Dallas County commissioners.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins led a resolution, approved by commissioners, declaring today, Luka Doncic Day.

The resolution acknowledges Luka for being the youngest player in league history to be named All-NBA First Team twice, which he accomplished over the past two seasons.

The resolution also highlights Luka’s stats as the franchise’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, holding career averages of 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.7 assists in 199 regular season games. His playoff stats have increased to 33.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 9.5 assists in 13 games.

Luka is also being honored for his community work which includes, donating $1.25 million to the February storm recovery and joining the Mavs in donating $500,000 to support childcare for healthcare workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commissioner J.J. Kock abstained from the vote taking the stance that Luka needs to do more in the community before getting a day named after him.

Obviously, J.J. was outvoted, but I feel him. I think Doncic’s philanthropic work is great, but I think he needs to do more in the NBA.

His stats are undeniable, but he’s only been in the league for three years, and has yet to lead his team out of the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Down here in the ATL!… We have this superstar point guard name “Ice” Trae Young, who was drafted the same year as Luka and actually traded for Luka, who just led his Atlanta Hawks team to the Eastern Conference Finals, in his first playoff appearance. Now he is deserving of his own day.

I’m sure you can tell I’m a ATL Hawks fan.

Congrats to Luka Doncic on his day.
