Washington Basketball Dad Mark McLaughlin Charged With Assault For Shoving Ref (Video)

A dad who lost his cool during his son’s basketball game has been charged with one count of assault in the second degree and he’s now facing up to 10 years in jail.

Mark McLaughlin‘s son was playing middle school basketball in King County, Washington, on December 16, 2021.

When a scuffle broke out between players on the court, a referee rushed in to de-escalate the situation and inadvertently ran into Mark’s son.

After seeing this, Mark made a beeline to the court and hit the wrong ref from the back, knocking him to the ground.

If you look at the video closely the ref that ran into Mark’s son is not the ref that he shoved from the back.

Watch the video below:

According to court documents, the ref’s face was bleeding for an hour and a half, and he suffered a broken nose and a broken cheekbone.

Mark was booked into jail on December 17, he posted bail the next day, and he plead guilty to the charge at a court hearing Monday morning (January 3).

If convicted Mark McLaughlin faces up to 10 years in jail.
