D.L Hughley had an unexpected and very real moment with his son, Kyle Hughley, on a recent episode of his TV One late night talk show.

George Lopez was a guest on the show and he was commending Kyle on what a great job he’s been doing.

That’s when Kyle revealed for a very long time, he thought his father hated him because he would always make jokes about his “condition.”

He said:

There was a time I actually thought – I don’t think I’ve ever told you this – but, there was a time when I thought my father hated me.

No, seriously. Because of like all the jokes he would say about my condition.

There was a time when I was like, ‘Damn, does he hate me?’

Kyle was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, a milder autism spectrum disorder.

Asperger’s, is a developmental disorder characterised by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.

D.L. was blown away by his son’s words and quickly let him know that was never the case!

Let me say this to you: If anything…I was ashamed of having given you something.

I was ashamed that when we went to get you tested at UCLA – I was ashamed that they said it came from the – I was ashamed of what I thought I had placed in you.

Never one moment have I ever not been proud of you or loved you.

You are the best thing I’ve ever done.

Watch the heartfelt moment below.

At one point and time, D.L. Hughley was my most fave comedian and it was the jokes about Kyle’s Asperger’s that turned me off to him.

I get comedians make jokes about things that are tough and painful, but I always thought, “I wonder how Kyle feels when he hears this?”

Now, we know.

**Update**

Kyle responded to my post to let me know things are great between him and his father and he feels that the post was taken out of context.

What an awesome young man. ?
