Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has renamed a street near the White House “Black Lives Matter Plaza” on Friday in honor of the George Floyd protests calling for an end to police brutality as well as justice for the lives lost.

Muralist painted “BLACK LIVES MATTER” in large yellow letters on a section of 16th street that leads right up to the White House.

Bowser’s Chief of Staff John Falcicchio took to Twitter writing:

There was a dispute this week about whose street this is. Mayor Bowser wanted to make it abundantly clear that this is DC’s street to honor demonstrators who peacefully protested on Monday evening.

Black Lives Matter DC wasn’t moved by the gesture and publicly called it a “performative distraction from real policy changes.”

What are your thoughts on the “Black Lives Matter Plaza?”
